I’ve been battling a powerful urge to begin the next revision round now. Oddly enough, the portion of the book that has already been revised twice is in better shape than the remaining portion that has so far been revised only once! Obviously, going back to the beginning would be easier than moving forward with this part. I have to keep telling my inner whiny crybaby that this part will be exponentially more painful if, next time I see it, it’s two revisions behind the beginning.
I may have exhausted this run’s supply of enthusiasm, but I will damn well slog through to the end and improve as much as I’m able before going back to page 1. Eventually, there will be a point where the first half of the book needs only cosmetic touchups, which will leave me with enough energy to do the intensive “write this better” work much of the second half still requires.
There’s really not much to report, given the “not doing a good job” approach. Replaced some pronouns with names to clarify who was speaking because I, the person who wrote them speaking, had a hard time figuring out who was speaking. Made a lot of all-caps notes for Future Me, who will hopefully win the spoon lottery between now and then so “doing a good job” is possible. Went back and added several forgotten navigation tags (because it’s a lot easier to find a scene’s summary in the 35-page synopsis and then search for its tag in the currently 375-page manuscript than it is to scroll or guess a useful search string).
At this rate, I’ll be able to half-ass my way through the remaining 12% with one more progress report!
